Biokine Therapeutics Ltd.
Overview
Biokine
Therapeutics Ltd. (Biokine) is an emerging biotechnology company developing novel drugs for
Cancer patients including anti-cancer and stem cells mobilization drugs. Biokine
was established
by Prof. Amnon Peled from
Research & Development
Biokine
targets CXCR4 Chemokine Receptor which is a key molecule involved in the regulation of different
cancer diseases. CXCR4 is known also to be involved in the emerging field of
stem cell biology, mobilization and tissue regeneration.
The
company is developing several novel CXCR4 antagonist molecules and presently conducts
preclinical and clinical
studies.
Leading
Product and TechnologyHit platform
The CXCR4 axis
is critically involved in the
development and progression of cancer as well as in regulating stem cell
mobilization and the recovery
of the bone marrow following chemotherapy and inflammation.
BKT140, the most
advanced molecule of Biokine, is a Unique CXCR4 antagonist. Through extensive pre clinical
research Biokine discovered that BKT140 is an anti cancer agent with the capacity to
treat lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma and solid tumors as well as a powerful
mobilizer of stem cells and lymphocytes.
Biokine had
recently finalized a Phase I/IIa, non-randomized, open label, single dose, dose escalation, safety and efficacy study of BKT140 in
multiple myeloma patients.
This clinical
trial proved that BKT140 had excellent safety profile and was well tolerated at all doses
tested. BKT140 induced a robust time and dose dependent mobilization of progenitor stem
cells and lymphocytes from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood in all patients tested. At the highest doses BKT140 Induced a dose
dependent robust
collection of CD34+ cells for transplantation and reduced the number of
collection events
from an average of 2.5 to one. More importantly, at the highest dose BKT140 significantly reduced the number of CD138+
multiple myeloma cells while profoundly increasing the number of CD34+ Cells. To validate the safety and efficacy of
BKT140 as a mobilizer
of stem cells and an anti multiple myeloma agent, Biokine is planning to
initiate Phase
II/III study in multiple myeloma patients in the beginning of next year.
The
Company
Biokine
was established on 2000 with the purpose of developing new and novel CXCR4
based drugs. During the years Biokine has successfully closed few rounds of financing from private
investors, Clal Biotechnology Industries Ltd. and Hadasit, the commercial arm
of Hadassah University Hospitals.
